Yes, it was such a big deal and to own a walkman, it just had to be Sony. Other brands will not match up to it. Of course, back then, there were not many competitors so Sony was the superior brand name.
Last evening, I stumbled upon an advertisement by Sony about their contest to win a walkman. Out of curiosity, I decided to check it out. Hmm I read through their terms written in tiny text but they did not say if this contest is open to the world or only to Singaporeans.
Anyway, if you decide to go ahead and participate, you would have to upload your image to their server and create an avatar from it. I don't know how they will select the winner, though, but I think it will be based on creativity in the avatar produced.
