Joe Strummer was born as John Graham Mellor on August 21, 1952 in Ankara, Turkey where his father was a British foreign-service diplomat.

He was the co-founder, lyricist, rhythm guitarist and lead singer of the English punk rock band, The Clash, and later The Mescaleros.

He passed away on December 22, 2002

WHAT IS IT?

WHAT FOR?
By putting songs on here so that everyone can listen to them, the visitors will be able to vote for

The most inspired-inspiring demo and the winner will either perform the song onstage during Strummercamp 2007 (Springtime, Manchester) or the song will put on and you will be given full credit, as well as distribute any of your merchandise or flyers

ANYONE. Worldwide

WHICH SONGS?
Any song whatever they have been written, cowritten, performed, produced... by Joe Strummer e.g. you can do a cover of "Stay Free" from The Clash.

The songs can come from any era like The 101ers, The Clash, The Mescaleros, the solo album, film scores etc.

You can provide AS MANY SONGS AS YOU LIKE per artist.

Any type of recording is allowed (tape, videos, mp3, cd...) that you send via the Internet or by post or in person if you are in London.

Any genre (no need to stay in the same style, you can perform acoustic, electronic, electric, a capella, rap, Techno, live, in a foreign language etc)

Every contestant will be acknowledged any way during the festival and i can distribute their flyers and links so send!

VOTERS: 01/02/07 TO 31/03/07 you will be able to fill in a form available on here or sent to your email address (do not forget to join the mailing list!) in which you will vote for your favourite cover.

On 01/04/07 the winner of the Joe Strummer Tribute Contest 2007 will be announced and contacted.
